Story
2nd January would have been Adam’s 29th birthday; also the first since his
sudden and unexpected passing in March. It will be a difficult day for Christine & I, but
equally one which we wish to turn into a something positive. I have therefore decided to mark the occasion by walking a 29 mile route from the family home, to De Montfort University, Leicester. This will take me through; Long Eaton, Sawley, Kegworth, Hathern, Loughborough, Quorn, Mountsorrel & Birstall.
Setting off at 6am, I would hope to arrive by late afternoon/early evening. Christine will join me for the first few miles and again at the end. Anyone else who would like to cover part (or even all 🙂) of the route is very welcome.
My primary purpose, is to increase awareness of cardiac risks in young adults, but also, in our son’s memory, raise additional funds, which will be used by The Adam Redfern Memorial Fund, specifically to train individuals in CPR/the use of defibrillators and (if enough is raised) potentially support the purchase of additional life-saving equipment. These are skills which will equip those benefiting for many years to come and might be needed well beyond the confines of the university campus, as they go about their everyday lives.
Any support you are able to offer, in Adam’s memory, will be gratefully received and will be very well used. Thank-you.
Ian Redfern.
