Bullock Smithy 56 Mile Hike in 24 Hours Challenge

The Bullock Smithy Hike · 4 September 2021
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
5th September update:
This morning at 10:30am I completed the 56 miles of the Bullock Smithy Hike, 22 hours and 30 minutes after starting at midday on Saturday.
Thankyou to everyone at 3rd Hazel Grove Scout Group who organised this great event. Thanks for the pre-work and the marshalls on the day and to the army of volunteers who manned the Pitstops.
Most importantly though I need to say thankyou to you for your sponsorship
My close and extended family has been heavily impacted by Alzheimer's, a life limiting disease that is currently incurable. Alzheimer's progressively destroys braincells over time affecting memory, thinking, mood, behaviour, language, daily life and interactions. This is not a normal part of aging, though the risk of suffering from Alzheimer's increases with age. One in six people over 80 suffer from Alzheimer's and other types of dementia, with Alzheimer's the most common. Signs of early-onset can be detected in a person's mid 30s, late-onset in their mid 60s. It is not discriminatory. There is limited symptomatic treatment with little support for the sufferers and their families. More research is desperately needed. There are currently no survivors.
I'm attempting the Bullock Smithy Hike on 4th and 5th September 2021 to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's Research UK. The Bullock Smithy Hike is a 56 mile circular route starting and finishing in Hazel Grove on the edge of the Peak District. The challenge starts at 12 noon on Saturday, finishing 24 hours later (hopefully) back at the start having visited Lyme Park, Chinley Churn, Edale Cross, The Pennine Way, Edale, Hollins Cross, Castleton, Millers Dale, Earl Sterndale, Three Shires Head, Macclesfield Forest, Bollington and the Middlewood Way. There is over 2,600 metres of climbing (more than 2 1/2 times climbing Snowdon). The training and challenge attempt are pushing my boundaries far beyond comfort. Please recognise my effort and support Alzheimer's Research UK with a donation.
Alzheimer's Research UK's vision is for a world where people are free from the fear, harm and heartbreak of dementia.
Without effective treatments, one in three children born today will die with dementia. Today, there are no dementia survivors but research can change this.
Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK's leading dementia research charity, dedicated to causes, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure. Backed by our passionate scientists and supporters, we’re challenging the way people think about dementia, uniting the big thinkers in the field and funding the innovative science that will deliver a cure.
THANK YOU in advance for your contribution, it will make a difference.
