Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Friday 12th April 2019, an unforgettable day, for all the wrong reasons.
Being diagnosed with bladder cancer as a fit and active man, with a wife, 2 daughters and approaching retirement was a massive shock.
I consider myself a private person, and have kept my diagnosis to close family and friends for the past 3 years. Having now completed my treatment I am feeling positive and able to share my story. I’m thankful to have received amazing treatment and support from all healthcare professionals, including my GP for insisting I should be checked, a friendly oncologist for out of hours guidance, Macmillan Cancer Support for care and advice, and the James Cook University Hospital Oncology department.
Thank you, NHS.
Treatment has been tough, and I feel fortunate to be able to say I have successfully completed my 24th session. I have always been a keen runner and to mark my 3 years of treatment I have decided to enter the 2022 Great North Run, and fundraise for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity. This charity is committed to improving the lives of everyone affected by all cancers and inspiring others to do the same.
About 10,000 people are diagnosed with bladder cancer every year. I hope my story is a reminder to familiarise yourself with the symptoms of bladder cancer, and if you have any concerns, get yourself checked!
Any donation is greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Ian
