Story
On April 24th 2016 I'll be running the London Marathon to raise funds for Diabetes UK. I have a minimum fundraising target of £1850 to reach so please help me reach it before the bailiffs are sent after me! Please donate what you can and think of me doing the dark cold training runs before the big day.
I've chosen "Diabetes UK" to raise funds for as both Nina and I have family members who are unfortunate enough to be Type 1 and 2 diabetics.
In 2012 our niece Amber was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 6. This was triggered by a virus attacking Amber's pancreas it all happened incredibly quickly. Since then she has been incredibly brave dealing with the challenges thrown at her, becoming a fundraiser for diabetes UK herself. The condition effects the whole family and we have been inspired by the way Mark, Helen and Harry have coped with the situation and remained so positive.
On Nina's side, some time ago now we sadly lost Mahendra Masa who had lived with diabetes for a long period. In the last few years we have seen the impact that Type 2 diabetes has had on Anuj Bhai and the dialysis and other efforts he now has to go through to manage it. Our families shared a room on a family weekend earlier this year where we got to witness this first hand. More recently still, following problems with his vision) Dipak Mama was diagnosed as being diabetic and now needs to find the best treatment for him.
Research is already making progress in understanding the condition and developing better and better solutions to help those with it. More funding will allow the rate of progress to increase so please donate all that you can.
