Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising money this year because at Christmas 2022 it will be 30 years since my mum died of cancer.

Cancer research has led to huge improvements in both prevention of, and treatments for, cancer over the past 30 years. I am sure that had my mum been diagnosed now, she would have a much greater chance of survival. Future research will help continue this progress.

I’m raising money not just in memory of my mum, but also in recognition of several close friends who have faced - or are currently having to face - great challenges as a result of cancer. One is currently going through chemo, and the other has had his quality of life permanently affected as a result of  cancer.

I am planning on running at least 6, maybe more, ultra-marathons in 2022 in the lead up to the 30th anniversary of my mums death at Christmas in 1992.

The first of these challenges, on 23rd April, is ‘The Highland Fling’ a 53 miles race along the West Highland Way, from Milngavie, to Tyndrum.✅

This will be followed by:

June- The West Highland Way Race (96 miles)✅

July - The Lakeland 50 (50 miles - unsurprisingly)✅

September- Glenmore 24 (run as far as you can in 24 hours - hopefully I’ll manage 100+) ✔️(Not quite - Only managed 88 miles)

September - The John Muir Way Ultra (just 31 miles) ✅

October - Bennachie Ultra (50k) ✅

Also:  Jedburgh 3 Peaks Ultra (38 miles) ✅

November - Glen ogle 33 (33 miles usually - but can include ‘bonus miles!) ✅

I appreciate times are tough for everyone just now, but any donation, however small, would be hugely appreciated💕
