We provide children's hospice care to children and families across Sussex

Story

Sickness is an unpleasant experience for all ages but especially the young, no matter whether young (like me) or old we're all affected by relationships. Sickness can cause trauma, anguish and saddness at all ages and each one of us would cope differently, but the one thing we all need is a network of friends, relatives, nurses and specialist carers and facilities who understand the needs of the family and the patient.

As a father its difficult to understand and comprehend how I would cope, so I'm taking part in the Great North & South Runs in September and October thats marathon distance (nearly)in the space of four weeks to raise much needed funds for Chestnut Tree House its the only children’s hospice in .  They provide care for children and young people who have life-limiting illnesses, which means that they will probably die before they reach adulthood

Caring for a sick child is a 24 hour a day, seven days a week job so it is important for the whole family to have a break, to take time out and relax.  No two days are alike at Chestnut Tree House but they try to create a home from home atmosphere, somewhere where it is possible for the children and families to spend time together, to do things they wouldn’t normally be able to do and to create special memories together, perhaps something we all take too much for granted !!

There are special bedrooms for children who come for overnight respite care, family rooms, a wet and dry play area, computer and music rooms, a multi-sensory room and hydrotherapy pool.  The house is set in beautiful gardens within an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Families are never charged for their care.  It costs around £2 million each year to provide this care and we receive very little government funding.  We rely heavily on the generosity and support of the people of to raise the funds needed to continue providing this vital service to our special children and families.

So please please dig deep, donate now and help me raise some much needed cash for a great cause
