Story
To kick off fundraising for the Attleborough Music Project, we are delighted to announce St Mary’s Hymn Marathon. We will sing and play through 847 hymns from the hymnbook Ancient & Modern: hymns and songs for refreshing worship over the course of the August Bank holiday weekend, starting at 6pm on Friday 26th August.
This extraordinary event will take place with help from special guests including David Dunnett, the organist of Norwich Cathedral, Michael Nicholas, the Cathedral Organist Emeritus, and John Keys from Nottingham, who has recorded the entire hymnbook.
Join us as we sing and play through day and night, and journey through the church seasons. Early in the marathon we will begin in Advent and play through Christmas Carols, Lent, and Easter to Pentecost. Refreshments will be available throughout the day.
The event is being held to raise funds for the Attleborough Music Project, which aims to create a centre of excellence and bring more music to Attleborough and the wider community. The project includes the provision of a music outreach worker and essential repairs to the 100-year-old church organ, not to mention extension of St Mary’s facilities in Attleborough to create more space for community events including concerts and recitals.
