Story

High Wycombe Tour of Britain

Residents and staff at Royal Star & Garter’s High Wycombe Home will be taking on the virtual challenge of cycling 874 miles to cover the distance from Lands’ End to John O’Groats.

Starting on Monday 22nd June, the team will ‘depart’ from Lands’ End and make their journey up the country. They plan to complete the challenge within 3 weeks and will be celebrating distance milestones with themed food, quizzes and bingo! Cornish pasties, Eccles cakes, Yorkshire puddings and Lancashire hotpot will be on the menu! Activities Manager, Hayley, hopes for the challenge to become a virtual reality within the High Wycombe Home, ensuring that even those who cannot take part in the challenge still feel a part of the team effort.

The challenge will be guided by residents Ena & John (pictured) who often challenge each other to see who can cycle the furthest each day. One resident, Marjorie has a special interest in this challenge as she proudly owns memorabilia in her room from the trip she took with her husband many years ago. We hope she will enjoy reminiscing driving from Lands’ End to John O’Groats and will join us for our UK themed activities and delicious food items as we make our way up the country.

Please support our team as they take on this fantastic challenge to raise money for Royal Star & Garter.

About Royal Star & Garter

We were founded in 1916 in the middle of a past national crisis and our core values are built around delivering care with courage. We provide loving, compassionate care to veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia. Our Homes in Solihull, Surbiton and High Wycombe offer outstanding residential and day care.

We help those who have had the courage to serve our country to live happy, fulfilled lives.

Why we need support

We are facing significant additional costs to meet the fight against COVID-19. Our staffing levels have increased to maintain our exceptional levels of care and we have already spent over £100,000 on personal protective equipment (PPE) and new technology.

This is still far from over and we have a long road ahead before we can return to any form of normal life. Despite this our commitment and courage to do everything we can to keep our staff and residents safe remains absolute.

We know that times are tough for everyone but if you are able to consider a gift to support our work, no matter how small, it would be greatly appreciated.
