Story
On November 19th, 2010, two days before his 50th birthday, Julian Smith (Hunch), father to Charlie, Ben, and Will and a man who was like an uncle to Chester, took his own life.
In his memory we are taking on a challenge “The Hunchman 500”
We - Charlie, Ben, and Chester - will be running from our old family home in Fetcham, Surrey to the Quantocks in Somerset, where our dads’ ashes are spread...and then cycling back.
Total of 500km over 7 days!
250km running over 5 days (over a marathon a day)
250km cycling over 2 days
Hunch was an incredible father, husband, brother, uncle, friend, and an inspiration to so many and through doing this challenge we hope to help his memory live on. We don’t want anyone to have to experience what we all went through, which is why we are looking to raise both money and awareness for men's health and suicide prevention through the amazing charity Movember.
We’re doing this for Movember because of what the charity does and what it means to all of us. Movember exists to raise money and awareness for the three biggest health issues facing men globally: Prostate and Testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. We have lost some monumental figures in our lives, all far too early, and we want to do our bit to help address these issues with men’s health, particularly Mental Health. In the UK, the biggest killer of men under the age of 45 is suicide, globally, one man takes his own life every minute.
Any amount of money and support you can spare will go a long way to fighting this issue that affects so many.
Thank you for your time and support.
Stay Golden,
Charlie, Ben, and Chester xx
