Humans of Kangaroo Island is a not-for-profit, passion project on Instagram and Facebook telling the stories of Kangaroo Islanders, one story at a time. Throughout November ten KI farm firefighters will share their experience and knowledge to inspire and help our community members out there. We hope to raise some funds to kit out these wonderful, selfless humans coming into the 2020/21 summer and fire season.

A devastating summer saw our farm fire units fight the ferocious beast that burned nearly half of our beautiful island for 45 days in a row. Many of these units lost their homes, farms, firefighting vehicles, equipment, protective clothing and more but still soldiered on after to help their neighbours and friends even when absolutely exhausted. These guys go out every year, multiple times, weeks on end, putting their own life at risk and on hold during firefighting efforts.

The funds raised will be used to buy protective clothing such as fire-resistant jackets, pants, leather gloves and goggles. Farm fire units normally equip themselves entirely which is a massive out-of-pocket cost and after their losses last year, any assistance will be greatly appreciated to have the guys ready for the next summer.
