A team of teachers from Hull Collegiate School are running in memory of Hope Rooms who died peacefully in her sleep at her Swanland home in February 2016, two years after being diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer when she was 12. Although she had a high-risk cancer, her sudden death came as a massive shock after scans in November 2015 gave her the all-clear.
Hope's inspiring attitude towards her illness led to her being named the Hull Daily Mail's Pride of East Yorkshire in 2014 and Hope won the national United Learning’s Young Hero Award in 2015.
Hope’s proud parents, Julie and David are leading the team of teachers around the 10K course in June. Hope will be remembered for being a selfless teenager who always tried to help others. Pupils and staff have been deeply saddened by the loss of Hope and we trust that many will choose to give generously to the Rooms’ chosen charity, Candlelighters.
This year the date of the Hull 10K is a particularly special one as Hope would have celebrated her 16th birthday and it is also Father’s Day. It would be wonderful if you are able to support by running, donating and cheering on the runners on the day.
