Cure Leukaemia's London 2 Paris returns in 2023 for another fantastic 4-days of cycling, and this year is set to be our biggest year EVER and is an incredible experience!

Story

As keen cyclists with a strong personal interest in promoting further leukaemia research they want to take part in this great ride, to raise vital funds for Cure Leukaemia. Hugh was diagnosed in 2017 with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL) and started treatment in March 2022. Hugh, and his wife Di, want to help support Cure Leukaemia's work and are excited about completing the London to Paris challenge to raise as much money as possible.

Hugh was a regular commuter cyclist for most of his career and, since retirement in 2006, has kept up regular cycling, as a means of transport and for leisure. He has, since 1979, been heavily involved in cycle campaigning in the Nottingham area with the local campaign group “Pedals”.

Di has joined him in cycling for fun including many family touring trips abroad and locally with the U3A Cycling Group.

Cycling is part of day to day life for them but cycling 500km (310 miles) in just 4 days is a different matter entirely and will be an enormous challenge. Now in their mid-70s they will be doing the ride on their e-bikes and will need to put in many hours of training between now and June. Hugh will be managing his CLL and the side effects of his medication whilst training for and completing this challenge. This will make them all the more determined to raise as much money as possible for such a worthwhile cause.

They understand that donating to charity in the current economic climate is very difficult for many people, but would much appreciate any support you can offer to ensure that Cure Leukaemia are able to continue their life-saving work. Thank you.

Cure Leukaemia helps blood cancer patients to access pioneering drug and transplant treatments by funding a network of specialist research nurses across the UK. Without these nurses, to ensure patients are monitored and cared for, clinical trials of these new treatments would not run and patients, that have exhausted standard treatment options, would miss out on potentially lifesaving therapies. Every penny raised for Cure Leukaemia helps save lives and also hastens global progress towards the eradication of all forms of blood cancer.

Cure Leukaemia fund research nurses at 15 hospitals across the UK. These roles form the Trials Acceleration Programme (TAP) network giving patients, from a catchment area of 30m, access to potentially life-saving treatments through clinical trials, with plans to fund a paediatric network on the way.
