Story
Hello Everyone
My name is Hugh McAninch, my youngest son ( also Hugh) and I are taking part in the annual Classic Challenge Pedal for Scotland event cycling from Glasgow to Edinburgh to fund raise for our charity The Compassionate Friends in this their 50th year. In terms of any funds we do hope to raise we would like that half (50%) go towards funding our annual Compassionate Friends Scottish Gathering for bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents and the other half or 50% go towards The Compassionate Friends UK to help support our services provided nationally for all bereaved parents and their families.
In September 1989 sadly and suddenly tragedy struck our family when through a fatal bicycle accident we lost a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend to many - our dear son Christopher had only just turned 17. A short time after that we contacted The Compassionate Friends and the amazing support we received was something that as a close family we will always be grateful for.
This subsequently led in 1992 to my wife Maureen and I being involved as volunteers for the charity, currently I am the Regional Co-ordinator in Scotland and Maureen my wife an active committee member in the organising of the Scottish Gatherings. If you would like any more details or information about our charity or the Scottish Gatherings and the support we provide please get in touch with me. I can be contacted through our National Helpline on 0345 123 2304.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and visit my Just Giving page - it is very much appreciated. Any funds raised will help so many who have sadly went through a similar experience as our family has - in gratitude.
