Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I’ve decided to run the 2022 London Marathon on behalf of Diabetes UK because for the past 9 years I’ve watched Jade live with having Type 1 diabetes, having known little to nothing about it before I met her.

For someone so young to have to take on the responsibly of monitoring there bloods having to test by pricking there finger then controlling what they eat & drink, having to remember to inject morning, night and before each meal or risk falling extremely ill possibly leading to death is the unfortunate truth.

To follow on from the above, in January 2021 Jade was giving the Libra sensor which we then changed to the Dexcom which monitors her bloods every 5 minutes via an app on her phone. After years of trying to conceive, Jade finally fell pregnant in August 2022 which the Dexcom sensor had a big role to play in her diabetes being so well controlled meaning her ovulation pattern was better.

Jade developed Diabetic retinopathy during her pregnancy & her eyesight has deteriorated quite servilely which has resulted in our daughter having to be delivered at 35 weeks, or a Jade possibly lose her sight.

Even with the Dexcom (which isn’t readily available without proper funding) diabetes is a life long condition, with many other long term affects on your life & body.

Any donations will be very gratefully received & and anyone that knows me, will know this isn’t going to be a easy 6 months build up to the run!

Below is a brief description but please click on the link to read more.

Type 1 diabetes is a serious condition where your blood glucose (sugar) level is too high because your body can’t make a hormone called insulinThis happens because your body attacks the cells in your pancreas that make the insulin, meaning you can’t produce any at all. We all need insulin to live. It does an essential job. It allows the glucose in our blood to enter our cells and fuel our bodies.
