Oxfam Trailwalker 2010 · 17 July 2010 ·
On 17th and 18th July 2010 the four of us, with help from our support crew, will be walking 100km in under 30 hours on the very hilly South Downs. The challenge is the Oxfam Trailwalker 2010 trek. Our target is to do it in under 24hrs if at all possible, but even doing it in less than the official 30 hours will be a major achievemnet. In real money, this equates to 60 miles, so the same as a couple of marathons in one go, plus a gentle warm up and down is what it will be like!
Anything you can give is greatly appreciated and any messages which will help us complete the task will be valuable, especially as we get into the early hours of the morning with blisters and fatigue! The money we are raising will be going to Oxfam and to the Gurkha Welfare Trust, so helping out many people less fortunate than most of us.
We will update the site as we get closer to the date and provide a full "match report" to anyone who donates!
We did a 30 mile training walk in the heat of 6th June, although Tim was nursing an injury so did his training in a more gentle manner. A few blisters, minor aches and pains and a bit of fatigue, especially for Haydon who had been champagne training the day before! It reminded us that 60 miles is going to be pretty tough, although an encouraging time of 9 hours and twenty minutes for the 30miles makes us believe that our 24hr target should be achievable as long as we don't slow down too much in the second half or take too many long breaks! Marc managed to not get grumpy for the whole walk and it became clear that many people believe he bears an uncanny resemblance to Luther!
