Story
Thanks for visiting The REAL Hove Albion’s fundraising page. Meriel, Rob, Daniel, Eluned and Julian have come together to form a formidable and winning force, sweeping all foes aside at the “Crazy Rockinghorse Sportathon” on the 23rd September.
Rockinghorse is best known as the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and continued supporter of the Trevor Mann Baby Unit. As well as this Rockinghorse supports children’s mental health services, respite centres and children’s homes across Sussex. They provide facilities services and medical equipment not funded by the NHS, and they do not receive any government funding so events such as this one our vital to the success of their work.
All Funds raised at this year’s Crazy Sportathon will be going towards providing a brand new sensory room at Drove Road respite centre, Portslade. Drove Road is a residential and shorts breaks service for young people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. The majority of the children that Drove Road support also suffer from complex autism.
A new multisensory room will provide the young people at Drove Road with a fun, interesting and safe place to explore and learn in. It will be designed to stimulate, calm, educate, and encourage their learning, social and motor skills regardless of age or ability. It would be motivating and rewarding, therefore improving self-esteem and helping the young people to achieve their potential.
Although the day promises to be great fun with globally contended sporting standards such as Melon Shotput and Sumo relay, the mission of the Rockinghorse could not be more serious and worthy. The Rockinghorse Children’s Charity aims to improve the lives of sick children throughout Sussex. They are the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital, raising money for life-saving and cutting-edge medical equipment while always ensuring that children are treated in the environment best suited to their needs.
We have all contributed to participate and would be delighted if you could spare a few pounds too. Thanks so much for your support.
