Story
On Saturday, December 7th, 2019, we will sleep out on a freezing cold night as part of the World's Big Sleepout campaign, in an event called: "A Winter Slumberland". For one night, in Muskegon County, Michigan, and iconic locations across the globe, we are joining an expected 50,000 people to sleep out in unison to create the Worlds largest display of solidarity and support of those experiencing homelessness and displacement.
PART OF MY STORY----I was six (6) months pregnant and with 2 little boys ages 5 and 4, and we were without a home. One unforgettable incident I recall is wanting to eat and I went to a family member's home and asked to microwave a TV dinner. Though I was allowed to heat up the food, I'll never forget what I was told, She said:
"I am not used to this, it's way too many of y'all in my house".
We left and ate the TV dinner outside in my old car. The feeling I got from being homeless and displaced was like... I didn't matter, and I want to show the world that EVERYONE MATTERS!
For one night we will sleep out in Muskegon County, Michigan in an effort to raise funds to help the displaced. Please donate to our page it will raise the life-saving funds needed to help a target of 1,000,000 homeless and displaced people on our doorstep and throughout the world - who have no other choice but to sleep out every night. ---- UNICEF USA is The World's Big Sleep Out's partner and all funds raised in the United States will be donated to UNICEF USA who will support us in distributing 50% of the funds to a Muskegon local charity, S.T.A.N.D (Strengthening The African American Nation Daily) and distributing the other 50% to support children and families who are displaced internationally.
