We Encourage children and young people to to understand and interact with horses

Story

Summerfield is a community stable-yard and riding school in Birmingham city run largely by volunteers, providing access to horses for young people of Birmingham  across racial, class, disability, and gender boundaries

They are a  registered charity, which aims to increase the confidence, mental and physical wellbeing of children,  young people and adults with complex needs through working with  horses.

In addition to offering  affordable  and subsidised riding and pony-care lessons, the team works with children with a variety of mental and physical disabilities as well as supporting children with behavioural problems and subsidising lessons for families who have fallen on hard financial times.   They really do make working with and riding horses accessible!

Like so many community organisations, Covid has hit the stables hard financially -   with the riding school having to cancel the majority of lessons, while outgoings remain the same.

Irrespective of lockdown rules, Summerfield has to continue looking after more than 20 horses and ponies, including feeding, mucking out, and exercising them to keep them fit and healthy, and when other stables have closed their doors for good, Summerfield has taken in horses and ponies where they can.

Your donations will go directly to feeding and caring for the horses, and any excess funds will go directly to supporting horse riding lessons for families who cannot afford to pay our subsidised rates.
