Story
Over the years much of the team here at Horizon have known family members or friends suffer from dementia. Seeing a loved one slowly drift away from you, leaving their living body behind for years to come
is agonising. With the number of dementia sufferers also on the increase we want to help and so therefore we have chosen Dementia UK as our partner charity for 2017.
Dementia UK offers specialist one-to-one support and expert advice for people living with dementia through their world-class Admiral Nurses. They work hand in hand with families, helping them cope with the fear, uncertainty and difficult everyday reality of dementia. In providing the compassionate, expert support, they help families live more positively with dementia in the present; and to face the challenges of tomorrow with more confidence, and less fear.
Having experienced first-hand the value offered by the Admiral Nurses, me and 11 of my team mates here at Horizon would like you to help us raise £500 in sponsorship for Dementia UK, to help ensure their great work continues for years to come. We will be competing on the 23rd and 24th September in one of the biggest physical challenges of our lives – the Equinox 24 hour run (http://www.equinox24.co.uk/). We have entered 2 teams of 6 who we’ll run a continual relay around a 10K circuit. Each team member will run up to 4 laps each – that’s a marathon!
Here is
a list of the brave souls competing:
Team 1:
Ben Hirst
Matt Fray
Jack Archer
Emily Duggan
Leah Hartley
Ian Moorhouse
Team 2:
Kelly Burgess
Ben Lunt
Jake Shelbourne
Todor Ilinov
James Kynaston
Amy Harrison
The task of running 4 separate 10k runs each within a 24-hour period is not something we’re taking lightly and so training has already begun. We have put together a schedule of pre and post work runs increasing in distance and intensity to a point throughout August when we’ll be running 10k before and after work on the same day! We’ll keep you updated on our training progress on this page.
Thank you for taking the time to read about our event and any support you offer is gratefully appreciated.
