1066 Challenge · 26 August 2021

Fundraising events set up by our wonderful supporters to raise vital funds for Demelza Hospice Care for Children.

Story

from September 2nd 2021 we will be criss-crossing the ancient paths and the route which is said to have been taken by King Harold in 1066 from Westminster Abbey to Senlac Hill (Battle, East Sussex), the battle ground where Harold and his army were defeated by William and his Norman army, then onto the finish line at Hastings Castle. The march was said to have been over 5 days, passing many of the Abbey’s in the Kent country side.

The route will start at Westminster Abbey where we will follow the Thames path to the River Darent then cross country to Rochester Abbey, Sissinghust Abbey, Bodiam Castle then Senlac Hill finishing at Hastings Castle.

The route which has been set out is approx 125 miles, of which 40 Mile will be a cross country cycle. The team aim to do this is the same time span as Harold and his troops, 5 Days, only ‘our’ aim is not to defeat the Normans but to raise much needed funds and awareness for Delmeza House, Childrens Hospice. Which our supporters have again elected through the Hoo Hikers Facebook page.
