Story
In the run up to International Women's Day, we are five brave individuals taking up the challenge of cycling at least 500 miles in one week, raising much-needed funds to help Smart Works clients transform their lives.
I became a Trustee of Smart Works in 2018 because I believe in their purpose. They give women the confidence, skills and interview clothing to support them to take control of their own lives. Being in the Smart Works office is a brilliant and humbling place to be. The team of amazing dressers and interview coaches look women in the eye, listen to them and treat them as equals. The women feel valued and for some this is something they have not experienced before - it is transformational.
Most women have at sometime in their lives, whatever their circumstances, needed a confidence boost, some re-assurance and to feel valued - I know I have - often we can get that from friends, colleagues or family. This is not always an option for some women who may not have a support network, perhaps have been long term carers or have had mental health issues which has impacted their ability to work. Without that confidence base and support entering the world of work can feel an impossible task.
This is where the Smart Works service really comes into its own - a two hour dressing and interview appointment with skilled and empathetic dressers and interview coaches. The women feel valued and for some this is something they have not experienced before - it is truly transformational.
Spinning for Smart Works is my way (and the team I am delighted to be spinning with) of showing our support by raising funds to enable them to continue providing the brilliant service they offer
This charity supports women to move forward on their lives - please support us.
