Story
Like many charities, St John Ambulance has taken a big financial hit as a result of the pandemic, even whilst providing vital Covid-19 support to the NHS.
St John Ambulance also runs a Homeless Service in Hastings and Brighton, which has not stopped providing nurse-led healthcare for homeless people, those in temporary accommodation (TA) and people with complex needs in the two locations during the pandemic.
Brighton has frequently been the local authority with the second highest rate of homelessness in the country, while Hastings has seen some of the biggest increases in rough sleepers in the UK in recent years.
Homeless people and those in TA tend to encounter many difficulties accessing primary care services. These problems have been exacerbated still further by the lockdown. The Homeless Service brings specialist, experienced and accessible healthcare to them where they are.
A team of Sussex Homeless Service volunteers and staff are walking the 40 miles along the coast from Hastings to Brighton on Sunday 19th July, to raise money for St John Ambulance and to raise awareness of homelessness in the two towns.
Some will be walking a few miles; some will be walking 20+ miles; but between us the whole distance will be covered.
We’d be so glad if you could sponsor us, with whatever you can afford. Thank you.
