Story
Ride+Stride is a nationwide event supported by the National Churches Trust but organised by local historic churches trusts. All around the country on the second Saturday in September each year thousands of people are sponsored to travel from church to church by walking, cycling or other methods. Funds raised are split between the Trust and local churches in Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire and North Bristol. At Holy Trinity Westbury on Trym we've taken part in Ride+Stride since 2016. With lock down restrictions easing and churches re-opening we planned our Ride+Stride events on 11th and 12th September 2020. However, we were not anticipating that many, if any, churches would be open to welcome the riders and striders so the event was rather different this year. For example, the bike ride was to Clevedon, taking in nine churches including our own, some of which were open in fact. We were blessed with fine weather particularly on Saturday 12 September and the ride and strides were very successful and enjoyable. Also, this year we've been asked to have a collective Justgiving page for everyone participating from Holy Trinity and Ken Pattison has set it up for everyone. Contributors may get a thank you from Ken on behalf of Holy Trinity! All contributions go straight to GHTC. With churches having been shut for so long, the need for financial help for church renovation and maintenance is probably greater than ever so raising funds is particularly crucial this year to enable GHTC to maintain their grant programme. Half the money we raise will come back to Holy Trinity. Holy Trinity is also able to apply for funding from GHCT for building projects, such as our successful application for help with the East West appeal a few years ago. By 16 September we had raised more than £800. Contributions are still very welcome please and every contribution will be very gratefully received. Thank you.
