Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My Name is Holly Gibson.
I was born with Aortic Stenosis which is a one of the most serious Congenital Heart Diseases, and in March this year at the age of 22 i underwent life saving open heart surgery in the Royal Victoria Hospital. I was in hospital for just over 6 weeks in total and my surgery lasted a long 7 hours. I received an aortic valve replacement which thankfully was a great success.
This was the toughest year of my life and i underwent not only physical but mental challenges along the way. During my time in hospital i was approached by Clare Caufield the founder of Bravehearts and from the moment i met Clare i suddenly felt not so alone in my journey.
Bravehearts provided me with support through visits when i had no visitors, paying bills i had but could not pay with being in hospital, supplying a TV for me to watch and keep my mind occupied and also providing a sofa bed for family members to stay on numerous nights throughout my weeks in hospital. These things were just priceless for me during that tough time and are just a slight insight to what this amazing charity does.
I am just 8 months post surgery now and although it was the toughest year of my life I want to ensure it's also the best! To feed my positive outlook and motivation I'm now training to complete the Lough 5 event which is a 5mile run. This will be the first time I will be properly running safely since I was a young child.
Please support me in my challenge and help me give back to this local charity by donating whatever you can spare. You will ensure that teenagers and young people with Congenital Heart Disease has the necessary support and amenities to make their tough days living and fighting CHD in many ways a lot easier.
