In December Holly & Heidi will be cutting off their hair and donating it to make wigs and raise much needed funds for Candlelighters, in honour of their friend Sophia Felgate, and the journey she has been on since 2018.  

Sophia’s Story

Sophia was first diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in 2018, only a week after her 3rd birthday. Sophia rang the bell and finished treatment in August 2020. In November 2021 her parents received the heart-breaking news the cancer had returned, and Sophia relapsed, aged 6.

Sophia has since been having intense chemotherapy and immunotherapy and as a result has lost her hair again. Despite this, the Felgates have been committed to focusing on fun and positives, they are a true inspiration. Sophia is the bravest and happiest little girl with oodles of sass and personality. Anybody who knows her will appreciate how she lights up a room.  

As a family we want to stand with our lovely friends, support their journey and share gratitude for the charity that have been there for them since 2018, when the road got tough.

This fundraising idea was sparked by Holly a year ago, when she asked me if she could give Sophia her own hair, to "make her feel better". Since November 2021 the girls have both been growing their hair to donate for real hair wigs whilst raising much needed funds.  

The girls will be donating their hair to Little Princess Trust, who in turn donate real hair wigs to young people just like Sophia, who have suffered hair loss as part of an illness.

The proceeds of this fundraiser will be going directly to the amazing charity Candlelighters, to support other children and families affected by cancer. 

Candlelighters rely on donations to provide support to children with cancer and their families.

The Felgates and many other families have had invaluable support from candlelighters in so many ways, here are just a few ways they have helped Sophia and her family.

- Counselling / Talking therapy sessions

- Play workers on children's wards

- Family fun days

- massage / haircuts / manicures

- Pizza night (one of Sophia's personal favorites)
