Story
Monday 2nd April, 2018. The date Jack and I (Holly) lost our mother and John lost his wife to Motor Neurone Disease (MND) - a rare neurological condition - 6 days after she was diagnosed. Due to the circumstances surrounding Covid, MND Association will likely lose out on £2million this year, making this an important cause that must be recognised. There is so much unknown about MND: what causes it; a single test for diagnosis (it's currently a long process of elimination); a cure.
Motor neurones control important muscle activity, such as: gripping, walking, speaking, swallowing and breathing. There are approximately 5,000 people in the UK fighting MND today. Mission5000 aims to build a team of fundraisers who will pledge to cover X amount of miles to cover a total of 5,000 miles across a 5-week period (13 September - 18 October): A mile for every person living with MND in the UK.
As a 5-person team, we plan to walk a minimum of 500 miles (we're Scottish!) between us. I plan to walk 200 miles over the 5 weeks and will be accompanied to cover the additional 300 miles by John (Holly's dad), Jack (Holly's brother), Adam (Holly's boyfriend), and Molly (Holly's friend). Molly's mum's partner, Rich, is currently living with MND and was diagnosed in summer 2019.
Times are tough financially for many right now, so if you are unable to donate, encouraging words are appreciated; if you can donate, please remember to tick GiftAid if you are a UK resident. They will pay 25% of your donation, increasing the overall money raised. No amount is too little! Thank you. 🌼
