I've been wanting to raise some money for SAMH for a while and now seems like the right time. The charity, SAMH, does excellent work across Scotland whether that's at a more local level or national programmes like TwoTooMany or GetActive.
I'd like to raise money specifically for SAMH's national suicide prevention programme. In Scotland, two people die by suicide each day and that's two too many. I'd like to say to as many people out there that it's important to talk but I'd also like to reach out to mental health professionals too and say, if ANYONE has taken the courage to ask for help, take the time to listen.
I have my own personal experiences of mental ill health and a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder. I try to raise awareness as best I can. I do this both through my magazine 'Mental Matters' and by constantly challenging attitudes on social media. It's time I do something though to give back to organisations such as SAMH and I'd like to honour and remember Kerri.
My friend Kerri was pushed away from services at the time when she felt most vulnerable. I just can't comprehend why she was refused the crucial support she needed. I can't change what happened but what I can do is try to engage with professionals surrounding the stigma of borderline personality disorder. I'll do what I can to make more people understand that normally if you ask for help it's because you need it. Validation is extremely support and Kerri's death could have been avoided, it should've been.
I'm supporting SAMH also because they do a great job and working as a volunteer for the charity in the past I've seen the good they do each day and currently I see that reflected in the work See Me Scotland do - and I'm happy to volunteer for them also who work in partnership with SAMH.
If you can spare anything then that would be appreciated. The SkyDive is on August 1st and although I only need to raise £500 for the event, I'd like to raise a little more if possible.
Thanks for reading and supporting me on this. Hollz x
