Thanks to everyone who has donated so far! I am SO grateful :) Just to let you all know I had an interview at Radio Jackie 107.8 fm today about my fundraising! This interview will be aired soon so tune in!
Hello everyone!
Thank you for taking the time to visit my Fundraising page for RESTLESS DEVELOPMENT. I know these pages can be quite boring at times so I have divided this section up into different headings so you can easily skip the bits you don’t want to read! There is information below on what I will be doing and who for, and also how I plan to go about reaching my fundraising my target of £800.
Please have a read, and donate if you can!!
WHAT WILL I BE DOING AND WHO FOR?
As some of you will already know I have been given the once in a life time opportunity to work for International Citizenship Service (ICS) (Check their website: http://www.ics-uk.org.uk/about/) the UK’s leading global volunteering programme for young people who want to do voluntary development work abroad.
I have been chosen to do this voluntary work with a charity called Restless Development, (Check the website: http://www.restlessdevelopment.org/about-us). This youth lead development agency’s mission is to place young people at the forefront of change and development. They have been working hard since 1985 and over the past 27 years, their programmes have reached over 7 million young people. Restless Development works full-time in India, Nepal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
I will be based in one of the above countries for a period of 3 months, where I will be living and working in the community alongside other volunteers from the country I am based in and volunteers from the UK, we will be working on development projects in the local community. Restless Development focuses on 3 key areas of development; Civic Participation, Livelihoods and Employment and Sexual and Reproductive Health. The work I will do will help to develop the local communities’ knowledge and skills around the 3 key areas. So by helping me to volunteer abroad you are in turn helping me to help a whole community!
(Please follow this link for a quick YouTube clip which explains more about what ICS is and what they enable young people to do abroad http://youtu.be/2Q3qR__QX1I and this one http://youtu.be/Q6yS61k1aLk for a clip on YouTube about Restless Development).
WHY FUNDRAISE?
For me to secure my place with Restless Development I MUST fundraise £800 over the next couple of months. Your money will go directly to Restless Development who will in turn use these funds to further support volunteers in the future to do the work that I will be doing next year.
FUNDRAISING IDEA
To help me fundraise £800 my kind friend Ollie has decided to agree to have his long hair cut short for the first time in 10 YEARS!! Please see my photos on this page for a picture of Ollie with his long locks!
If any of you know Ollie you know that his hair is his pride and joy so I was delighted when he agreed to have it cut because he knew this would help me to raise my target of £800 which in turn will help me to help wider communities abroad. So if you would like to sponsor Ollie to have his hair cut short on the 18th December 2012 (I will update this page with pictures so you can all see his lovely short hair!!) then PLEASE dig deep into your pockets and donate on this page!!
Please donate to support Restless Development to help them to continue to do the amazing work they do and to support me to carry out a lifelong dream of helping others abroad in poorer communities!!
PLEASE HELP ME TO HELP OTHERS
THANK YOU!
