Story
April 2nd 2023. The date that will mark the 5-year anniversary of losing my mother, Connie, to Motor Neuron Disease (MND).
MND is a rare neurological condition. There is so much unknown about it: what causes it; there's no single test for diagnosis (it's currently a long process of elimination); there's no known cure.
Motor neurones control important muscle activity, such as: gripping, walking, speaking, swallowing and breathing. There are approximately 5,000 people in the UK fighting MND today.
To honour my mum and this date, I've decided to not only walk my first ever munro on the 5 year anniversary – April 2nd, but also the highest munro and mountain in the UK and British Isles. In fact, you won't find a higher point in any direction for 459 miles before the Scandinavian Mountains in Norway.
10.9 miles. 1,345m above sea level. 7-9 hours round trip.
The last time I fundraised, I made it to £3.5k. I'd absolutely love to hit £5,000 to support the 5,000 – and counting – individuals with MND in the UK right now. Some things that money raised can support with include:
- £500 = a ceiling hoist to help someone continue to live in the comfort of their own home.
- £250 = a grant to help a carer/person with MND have a day out or do something fun/special.
- £100 = will fund laboratory equipment for 2 days worth of research into the causes of MND.
- £80 = buys software to enable an individual to bank their own voice.
*Please do not click anonymous—I want to be able to thank you! Selecting GiftAid will give 25% on top of the money you have donated*
*I won't be going alone. As a group we will be respecting the mountain's conditions. If we are forced to cancel due to weather, we will conquer it sometime in May instead.
**I'm a keen hiker and am really pushing myself with training (while avoiding munroes in the meantime to ensure Ben Nevis is my first!).
THANK YOU 🙏🏽
