London Marathon 2018 · 22 April 2018 ·
Our father, Colin, always said 'don’t do things by halves'. In this spirit and in his memory, we are running the London Marathon this April for Pancreatic Cancer Action.
Pancreatic Cancer currently has the lowest survival rate of all cancers, proving fatal to 80% of those diagnosed within just four to six months. Survival rates have not improved in four decades and yet it receives less than 3% of research funding. PCA undertakes research to change this with a focus on improving early diagnosis, which is key to increasing survival rates.
In 2011 our dad was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. He underwent trial treatments, groundbreaking operations and benefited from research conducted by organisations, such as PCA. This meant we were lucky enough to have three more years together as a family.
Dad was the life and soul of the party, always looking on the 'bright side of life'. We are hoping to take some of this positivity with us into the marathon and, of course, some encouragement through any kind donations you are able to provide would be most appreciated.
We may not cross the finish line together (one of us has much longer legs, and a slightly better running ability), but we are each hoping to cross it in the knowledge that we have made a small contribution towards progressing research in memory of our amazing dad.
All our thanks,
Alana & Daniel
