Story
HMS Prince Of Wales are conducting a virtual run from Portsmouth to St Vincent & The Grenadines in order to raise money for the ongoing national emergency in St Vincent. The distance is 4215 miles and we are hoping to raise one pound for each mile. There will be a team of 40 people running the collective distance of 4215 miles from the 1st of May. Money raised from this will go towards clothes, food, clean water and medical supplies.
There is currently a national emergency in St Vincent as a result of the continuing eruptions of La Soufrière Volcano. As well as this, St Vincent has also been victim to heavy flooding which has led to landslides. Over 20,000 residents have been forced to flee their homes whilst locals described collapsed roofs as well as damage to major infrastructure. Around 15% of the island’s population remain in temporary accommodation and at least a third of the country’s agriculture has been wiped out.
The Royal Navy has many serving personnel from St Vincent and The Grenadines so we want to do everything we can to help our friends and their families rebuild after such a tragic event.
