Story

Why I'm running this event

I'm running this danceathon in loving memory of our family friend Peter, who suffered from a rare Neurological disease called Corticobasal Syndrome (CBS), and sadly passed away in September as a result of complications caused by the disease.

Having been diagnosed with the condition, Peter requested that on his death, his brain would be donated to UCL’s Queen Square Brain Bank Research Centre in London to help doctors find a cure for this horrible condition.

The UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology is an institute within the Faculty of Brain Sciences of University College London (UCL). The team at QSBB aim to provide the highest-possible quality of brain tissue for neuropathological studies and for scientific research in the UK and worldwide.

The Institute has eight academic departments, which encompass clinical and research within each theme, including; Brain Repair & Rehabilitation, Clinical and Experimental Epilepsy, Imaging Neuroscience, Clinical and Movement Neurosciences, Neurodegenerative Disease, Neuroinflammation, Neuromuscular Diseases, and UK Dementia Research Institute at UCL.

Although Peter’s condition (Corticobasal Syndrome) effects only 1 in 20,000, there are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, and UCL need our support to fund vital medical research.
