My husband, John, and his great nephew, William, were both diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as teenagers. John has now been living with the condition for 57 years. The treatment, insulin regimes, dietary advice and related technology have changed immeasurably over the years but there is no cure as yet. It does not get any easier to live with and it is a condition with no respite and many side effects.
