Story
Community Action Nepal (CAN) is a charity that was started by mountaineer Doug Scott. Doug is someone I have long admired for his mountaineering achievements, photography, talks and charity work. CAN aims to help some of the poorest people on the planet – the mountain people of Nepal. Their main fund-raising thrust is holding events and talks, which have not been possible through the Covid-19 lockdown.
So, in my small way I am hoping to help them to continue their fantastic work. To help CAN, I have recorded a Zoom conversation between myself and athlete Paul Tierney, with the help of CAN colleagues.
Paul is an Inov-8 ambassador, who recently set a new record for running the Wainwrights (214 summits in the Lake District) in just over 6 days. In the video we have what I hope is an illuminating discussion that ranges from the Wainwright Round, via memories of races, and our respective heroes, through to amusing situations where we have both been mistaken for someone else (perhaps more famous than ourselves). Paul talks about his future plans, and I (who as you will hear was thought by some folk to look like Doug!) also reveal some of my own fell and mountain experiences. [There may even be details of my latest book, on Billy Bland]
I invite you to watch the video, and would be delighted if you would give a small donation to CAN, to help them continue their work in these difficult times. Any amount is appreciated. Thanks, on behalf of Community Action Nepal, Steve.
