Story
I have been receiving palliative treatment for my ovarian cancer since Dec 2020, after initially being diagnosed in Sept 2019. A few months ago I began going to Nottinghamshire Hospice for weekly massages. Anna, who does them is marvellous, and we have great chats whilst I'm there. I am so grateful for the care I've had, and continue to have, from the NHS, but it's so good to experience something nice and nourishing rather than the poisonous chemicals and needles that are part of chemotherapy.
Driving can be a bit uncomfortable for me these days and the Hospice even provide me with a driver to bring me into and take me home from the centre, so I don't have to rely on friends or get taxis.
During one of my chats with Anna she suggested I might want to checkout the emotional well-being counselling that the Hospice offer, and I am now on my sixth telephone counselling session with the lovely Emma.
All of these services are provided free of charge, and when I get too sick to carry on the plan is for me to receive care from the Hospice at Home team.
In the meantime, I plan to add quite a bit more life to my days with my walk through Northumberland and on the 16th July hope to meet up with friends, and anyone who wants to come and support us, for a final fundraising walk around Wollaton Park. Please donate and help ensure that the amazing support of the Nottinghamshire Hospice remains available to anyone with a life limiting illness, not just cancer.
Nottinghamshire Hospice is a registered charity and all services are provided free of charge to our patients and their loved ones. Our mission is to add life to every day for people who have been told their illness cannot be cured, helping them to live as actively and well as possible with care that puts them at the front of everything we say and do. We achieve this through the kindness and generosity of people in communities across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire who recognise the difference our work makes. Please help if you can, thank you.
