Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am going to walk in a marathon the on Saturday, 1 June 2013 at St Mawes, Cornwall in aid of the Mermaid Centre in Truro. The race starts at 11.30pm and goes on until 9.00am on the Sunday morning. Compared to the London event, St Mawes is a much smaller venue so we are going to do 9 laps around the town, each lap is 2.8 miles. It’s going to be amazing to see the sun rise over St Mawes castle. Please pray that it doesn’t rain!
Breast cancer is common in my family - my mother has had breast cancer twice and my cousin is currently undergoing treatment. It is hard to believe that before 1998 anyone with breast cancer in Cornwall had to make the long trek up to Plymouth for their operation and treatment. Following a hugely successful fundraising campaign, we now have a purpose built diagnostic facility in Cornwall which offers a complete treatment to everyone. I want to support the Mermaid Centre as I would like to help the Centre keep up with research and its high level of care. I had a mammogram recently and the staff were lovely - so supportive and positive. According to the website, 'The unit's goal is to deliver the latest and highest standard of care to all our patients and to remain at the forefront of diagnosis, treatment, research and training in breast disease; exploring new frontiers in preventing, diagnosing and treating breast cancer.'
