Story
Hello, my name is Hilary. I am writing to tell you about a new, self-funded challenge I am undertaking this year. In November 2022 I am cycling from Vietnam to Cambodia, a total of 450km, with my friend Jenny. Starting our trip in Ho Chi Minh City, we will cycle a route passing the Khmer temples, rural communities, floating markets, to reach Phnom Penh. Following the Mekong River we visit Kampong Thom, explore Angkor Temple, and finishing in Siem Reap. Read more about our exciting adventure and see the more detailed route -

Now, more importantly, the reason we are doing it!
At the beginning of 2020, I had been faced with a far bigger challenge. After going along for my regular screening, feeling
I had no reason for concern, I was floored by my diagnosis of breast cancer. In the following months, after successful surgery and follow-up treatment, I was thankfully given the all-clear. A huge thank you to all medical staff concerned in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness and for all the support given to me by friends and family. During this time,
I also received encouragement and support from a Move Forward group set up by Breast Cancer Now.
Counting myself very lucky, that all my treatment was completed successfully, despite COVID restrictions, I now want to raise funds for the valuable work being done by Breast Cancer Now in supporting people like me.
Breast Cancer Now is a charity which gives support to people
with their diagnosis, during their treatment and recovery, also helping them to move on afterwards. This charity also supports vital research being carried out to find more effective treatments and
continuing to improve those already being used. It is their aim that by the year 2050 to have reached the stage where no one needs to die from breast cancer. It also raises awareness of the importance of self-checking and the symptoms to look out for.

Although I am funding this challenge myself, I see this as a
good way of raising much needed funds to enable this charity to continue with their work, so please support me by donating to Breast Cancer Now.
Your donation could be used as follows -
- £10 could buy essential lab equipment for our researchers.
- £30 could fund enough of our specialist nurses' time to give a person with breast cancer the support they need through our Helpline.
- £50 could provide 500 leaflets for doctor's surgeries in the UK to promote breast checking and inform about the signs and
symptoms of breast cancer.
- £500 could pay for two full working days of research.
- £1,000 could pay for six people with secondary breast cancer to attend our Living with Secondary Breast Cancer group sessions.
Thank you for your support.
