Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Many of you will know of my fight with cancer....
For those that don't, here goes...
In 2006, aged 26 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, a lumpectomy and full lymph node removal under one armpit was followed by grueling chemotherapy and radiotherapy this was followed by post cancer treatment including Tamoxifen and Zoladex strong hormone suppression treatment.
In 2010, aged 30 I was diagnosed with a further primary breast cancer and without question made the decision to have a mastectomy, which was again followed by chemotherapy.
I then received the news that I had the BRCA 1 gene making further cancers almost inevitable - hard and life changing decisions were made.
Over the next 3 years I underwent further surgery, including the removal of my ovaries, making me a menopausal 33 year old and a further mastectomy of the remaining breast.... all of which were done to continue my fight for survival (is it warm in here 😊)
I feel honored to have been picked to take part in Maggie's on the runway 2021 and over the last few weeks I have been lucky enough to be able to get to know members of the Maggie's Team, Manchester and see what support they offer. Maggie's is a charity that provides emotional, practical and social support to those living with cancer and their loved ones. Having this support makes an enormous difference to anyone diagnosed.
Maggie's is located opposite the Christie and had not yet been built when I was poorly thus any additional support was not available to me or my family. Had it been available it would have helped me and my family massively. Maggie's does not receive any government funding whatsoever and relies solely on charitable donations.
Here's the part where I will hopefully relieve you of some money........
Over the next few weeks I am going to organise some events that will hopefully help me raise money for this worthy charity. My colleagues/friends & family are going to support me in this mission so please watch this space for updates.
Please donate any amount, even small donations make a difference.
Helen xx
