Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
In March 2020, we had planned to run a mud run in memory of our Dad, Andrew Gurney. Due to covid it was sadly postponed but has now been rescheduled for April 30th 2022. If you didn't get to sponsor us before please help us reach and smash our target of £5,000 and raise awareness. We are so appreciative of the money donated so far, thank you so very much.
Our story:
In September 2018 at the age of just 48, Andrew was diagnosed with a very rare Penile Cancer. He was a busy dairy farmer, husband and Dad to three children Henry 13, Emily 11 and Sophie 8.
Three operations later, Andrew was given the all clear on New Years Eve. You can only imagine our relief, 2019 was going to be a new beginning for us with an immense gratitude for life.
However, unbeknown to the doctors, the cancer must have travelled in the blood and lymph system attacking his lungs and other organs. He had a check up on the 4th of June 2019 in London and he died on June the 29th, after a shocking diagnosis days before. He was just 49.
Not enough is known about Penile Cancer with only 600 men a year (usually over 60) in the UK getting it. More research is needed to better understand its progression to secondary cancers. We aim to raise awareness to ensure more men get checked early and prevent the cancer from spreading. Our Dad wasn't embarrassed about having Penile cancer and wanted to ensure other men don't suffer from this awful disease! If in doubt get checked and keep talking!
