Story
As Kurt Vonnegut said: listen. I'm going to tell you a (short) story. My longtime friend Cindy Rakowitz founded a non-profit--Fit 4 The Cause--several years ago and urged me to join their board. Fit 4 The Cause, in a nutshell, provides free health and fitness instruction to thousands of people--from seniors to primary school students--who can't afford it in the Western San Fernando Valley and Ventura County, CA.
So two things happened in 2020: David passed away from pancreatic cancer, devastating our organization and his family, and then the pandemic hit, making in-person delivery of fitness offerings temporarily impossible. During these uncertain times, Fit 4 The Cause's low-income group exercise participants are more appreciative--and more in need--of our diverse online fitness offerings than ever. Fit 4 The Cause keeps its fragile seniors and young adults with special needs moving with Zumba®, Strength Training, Yoga, Meditation, Brain Games, cardio-kickboxing and American Sign Language for all age groups.
David left the board and me with a mandate: keep it up, do more, give more. So we came up with this goofy roller derby concept. And for simplicity, we're not even exercising this time; we're being ranked against our peers against how much money we're raising. I created this perfectly appalling (although physically optimized and inexplicably blue-eyed) avatar to save as a symbol of my participation and efforts. And everyone who donates gets a prize: a viewing link to a movie I have worked on this year. Make a donation? Get a movie. That's it.
Your donations will allow us to continue our active online fitness programs where our participants in need mitigate social isolation, obesity, depression and compromised immune systems.
