Story
I am raising money for Alive and Kicking (http://www.aliveandkicking.org.uk) , an African social enterprise that manufactures sports balls to provide balls for children, create jobs for adults and promote health education through sport. Since 2004 A&K has produced and distributed more than 300,000 balls, provided more than 150 sustainable jobs, and targetted more than 40,000 children with their HIV / AIDS campaign.
They achieve this through the African manufacture and distribution of sports balls and the provision of appropriate health awareness materials for young people.
Alive & Kicking balls are hand stitched in Kenya and Zambia out of local leather. They are tougher than imported synthetic balls, last far longer on rough ground and therefore give children in Africa lasting fun. The balls are donated to schools, orphanages, refugee camps and youth projects across Africa, and every ball carries a message about HIV/AIDS or malaria which can be used by teachers and sports coaches to broach discussions with children on deadly disease.
