The government of Myanmar, a predominately Buddhist country, claims the Rohingya people are illegal immigrants from neighbouring Bangladesh and has denied them citizenship, leaving them stateless. In 2014 they were left out of the country's census and thrown out of Myanmar after the long term political prisoner and ex-opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi became the country's leader.
