Story
I have always loved running and as many of you will know, ran very competitively before the birth of my two children in 2015 (James) and 2017 (Robyn). Since then, life has changed a little, and needless to say I have not found chance to do very much running. When the University of Sheffield sent out a call for 10k runners to raise funds for the Sheffield Scanner appeal, therefore, I seized upon this as an opportunity to return to running a little, but with a different (and extremely valuable) focus from my previous need for speed!
The run is on 23 September 2018 (not much time to train!), and I'll be raising money for the University’s £2 million campaign to bring an MRI-PET scanning facility to Sheffield.
MRI-PET is the most powerful imaging technology currently available, and this facility would transform our research by increasing our understanding of the causes, effects and development of many kinds of disease, including Alzheimer's, cancer, heart and lung diseases, Motor Neurone Disease, and strokes.
The MRI-PET Facility would be located at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital on the central University campus, ideal for both direct clinical use and research programmes. This would be the first MRI-PET Facility in Yorkshire and a vital investment in the health of people in this region, across the UK and beyond. More information about the Sheffield Scanner can be found at https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/sheffieldscanner.
