Story
In October I will be going on a trek through the Sahara Desert to raise vital funds for Isabel Hospice in eastern Hertfordshire.
As 2012 is the 30th Anniversary of the Hospice, and my 20th year of working there, I felt it was a very appropriate way to mark the occasion. (Although the truth is that I was talked into it on an unguarded moment by Charity Warnes who is also doing the walk.!!)
I will be walking with the cherished memories of two dear family members, who were taken early in their lives by cancer. Simon, my lovely nephew, who was the age of 20 when he died, is still often on my mind as he was such a fun person to be in the company of and lived life to the full! Also my niece Ella, who had a real zest for life, was taken from us at the age of 43 and left behind her 2 sons and a daughter.
I have no doubt that the trek will be the most challenging thing I have ever done, but likewise I am sure I will enjoy it and with Simon and Ella spurring me on I am sure even when I want to give up .. they will be telling me not to be so soft!!!
We will be working at a hospice in Marrakesh for 2 days, helping out with tasks such as gardening and decorating which will hone into the skills that I excel in.. I dont think!! We will then travel out into the desert where we will trek for four days, covering a total of approximately 50 miles and sleeping under the stars. Temperatures may vary from 40° during the day to 0° at night... what fun!!
The cost of the trek I have personally paid for, so every penny raised through sponsorship will directly benefit the patients and their families that Isabel Hospice care for.
I really do appreciate that in these tough times everyone is being asked for money, but if you are able to donate even just a small amount in support of Isabel Hospice, I would be extremely grateful.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
