Story
In September 2022 (postponed 2 whole years due to the pandemic) myself and a group of other amazing individuals brought together by the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce will be setting off to conquer the highest peak in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for Sheffield Children's Hospital.
All the money raised will be going towards helping The Children's Hospital Charity transform the Cancer and Leukaemia ward at Sheffield Children's Hospital. The ward treats children from babies through to 19 year olds, in South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire and even as far south as Northampton.
The department is one of twenty principle treatment centres in the UK and also cares for patients who have other blood problems such as bleeding and inherited disorders.
Please donate if you can, every penny really does make a difference! Thanks so much for your support.
A few (little) stats about the challenge:
1. Kilimanjaro is the worlds largest freestanding mountain.
2. The highest mountain on the African continent at 5896m / 19340ft
3. The trek will take us through 5 different climate zones (cultivation, forest, moorland, alpine desert and summit)
4. Kilimanjaro is one of the earths largest volcanoes
5. Temperatures throughout the trek can range from 27 degrees to -26 degrees.
6. It will be an 11 day expedition in total with 7 days on the mountain
7. The trek distance is 87km of the Machame Route
8. Yes... we are CRAZY!!!!
