Event: Perkins Great Eastern Run 2019, on 13 October 2019
Participants: John Airey
October 13th sees the Peterborough Great Eastern Run and 5K Fun taking place and we are running to raise awareness and money for our homeless projects; the Garden House day centre and the Peterborough Winter Night Shelter.

Story

Over the years I have had the privilege of volunteering with the Winter Night Shelter and at the Garden House, which I have always found inspiring and humbling. The love and compassion given to those who come for help is amazing. Every person who comes into the project is treated as an individual who is important and each one is made to feel cared for. So many people have been helped since the project opened.

I was all ready to run the Great Eastern Run in 2019 despite the torrential rain when it got cancelled at the last minute due to a police alert! After this it was cancelled for 2 years due to the pandemic! I am now up and ready to go again on the 16th October so would really appreciate your support to do this. This is my first ever half marathon so is a big challenge for me.

'Every person we meet who is sleeping on the streets has amazing potential. We focus on giving people hope for the future, showing them that they are valued and that society really loves and supports them. One by one 'how can we help you?' is asked and whether it be accommodation, health support, job search or just a chat over a cup of tea we are able to find a way to help.'
