Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I’m running the London Marathon 2014 to support the amazing work Children with Cancer UK are doing. The Charity funds research into the causes, prevention and treatment of childhood cancers, improving the care of young patients and their families and raising awareness of the signs and symptoms. Hopefully one day a cure for cancer will be found but until that day arrives, we need to continue to fund and support research.
Last summer a swelling appeared on the shoulder of our friend's (then 4 year old son) Luca Mobey. After an agonising few weeks of tests and scans, in July 2013 Luca was diagnosed with an aggressive form of childhood cancer named Alveolar Rhabdomysarcoma. The impact this has had on Luca, his family and friends cannot be put into words.
The intensive treatment regime has been a tough journey for Luca and his family. Chris and Jane, both serving members of the Greater Manchester Fire Service have shown such strength and determination adopting the approach suggested by Winston Churchill namely “If you’re going through hell, keep going”. You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.
The battle goes on and Luca is being so brave. He just gets on with it even though the treatment has been gruelling with its many side effects.
Luca is not alone, there are other children like him, including others in the local community in Ringley and Greater Manchester who along with their families are travelling their own long and difficult journeys in their battles against cancer.
Inspired these children and their families I have brought my running shoes out of semi-retirement and will be running in the Virgin London Marathon on 13 April 2014 as part of the Children with Cancer UK Running Team.
The training is tough and can at times be painful and no doubt there will be challenging moments during the 26.2 mile marathon course but it is nothing compared to the challenges faced by child cancer suffers like Luca and their families.
