Story
Thank you for visiting my sponsorship page. Action Medical Research is the leading UK-wide charity saving and changing children’s lives through medical research. For 65 years we’ve helped pioneer ways to prevent disease and develop treatments benefiting millions of people. Our research has helped to beat polio in the UK, develop ultrasound, fight meningitis and prevent stillbirths. But we urgently need to develop more new treatments and cures for sick babies and children and we can’t do it without you.Join our fight for little lives.
Arriving to the world of running a little late, and running a couple of half marathons last year, I decided 2020 would be both the first and final time I run 26.2 miles. Hearing that the 40th London marathon in the month I turn 40, well it was meant to be.
I have been a paediatric nurse for almost 20 years. I’ve had the privilege of looking after babies and children in hospital, hospice and the community. I’ve also had personal experience of loved ones being affected by illness through theirs or their child’s childhood, so what better charity to run for. A charity thats scope is so wide, that funds research that changes lives and is tangible in my every day practice. Every specialism is represented by different research projects close to my heart, congenital heart disease, childhood cancer, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, premature birth, cleft, I could go on and on.
I approached action prior to the ballot places being announced, as I was keen to secure a London place. To my complete delight and amazement they called me to say they’d have me, the next day!
My dear friend Carly, is also a nurse, and ran my first half marathon with me last year. She is an experienced runner and believes in me, even when I don’t! She too applied for a place with action medical and was successful. Carly also has professional and personal reasons for fund raising for action. Once the ballot places were announced, and I’d been offered one, I was already an action runner!
