Story
I had a through knee amputation in 2019 due to Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. It was a 50:50 chance that I would be able to use prosthetic, running was a far fetched dream. Against the odds the amputation resolved my CRPS and I was able to learn to walk. My attention then quickly turned to being able to run and how to make that happen. Following raising the funds needed, in the summer of 2021 my dream of running became a reality.
Why 1 mile for the Richard Whitehead Foundation?
I was learning to run on my running blade when Richard launched the Richard Whitehead Foundation. I reached out to Richard having been inspired by his plans. I knew first hand the huge positive impact of being able to participate in sport and have access specialist equipment. One of the things I wanted to do on my running blade was a charity run, so asked Richard about doing one for the Richard Whitehead Foundation.
The team at the Richard Whitehead Foundation quickly started helping me to make that possible. They organised for me to join my local athletics club and Richard started mentoring me on my running journey. Going from not being able to run to loving sprint training twice a week. The Richard Whitehead Foundation have opened up the running world to me in a way I never imagined.
I want to help the foundation grow, so they can support more disabled people to believe anything is possible!
Sponsor me to Run with Rich! I will do it my way and it is my challenge, but most of all it will be fun. I need you to encourage me to do this! Please sponsor me and your sponsorship will help individual disabled people to believe anything is possible.
