Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
On the 30th September 2012 it is 'World Heart Day'. In recognition of this the Papworth Hospital Charity is organising a fund raising event at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough where participants can walk, run or cycle distances ranging from 1.5 to 9 miles. This event is to help to raise £75,000 for the purchase of a new Cardiopulmonary By-pass Machine (CBM). The CBM becomes the heart and lungs of almost all the patients who undergo surgery at Papworth Hospital, which is nearly 2,000 patients a year.
Three years ago Helen's mum (pictured above) very suddenly became critically ill and was cared for at Papworth Hospital for several weeks. During this time she underwent major life-saving heart surgery, where she was put on a CBM for seven hours.
In recognition of the fantastic care she received, and allow others to undergo life-saving operations, we are going to run the 9 mile route: the most challenging option. Please support us in raising some money for this good cause.
